800 Sqdn, HMS EAGLE, 1969. A Buccaneer Mk2 crash (1of5). Buccaneer Mk1 XN 934 of 800 Sqdn ready to launch from HMS EAGLE in October 1965. Lt.Cdr. Chase USN (P) and Lt. Markley USN (O). (John Stevens) XN 934 returns to the ship with double proportioner failure & unable to land. Lt Markley ejects. (John Stevens). (2). USN crew, Lt. Cdr Chase ejecting from the stricken Buccaneer Mk1 XN 934. (3). The aricraft, minus crew and ejection seats, flies on for seven minutes. Fears mount as XN 934 circles and dives at the ship. (4). It misses and crashes into the sea beside the ship. (The rescued crew watched from the flight deck as the aircraft crashed into the sea). (5). All that remained of XN 934 was recovered. HMS Heron, 1953. A Seafire 4 engine failure on take-off.

With insufficient airspeed XD 319 plunges off the ship but Andy Alsop is returned safely to the ship by the SAR helicopter. (John Stevens) A Buccaneer1 misses the arrester wires and attempts to go around again, but stalls into the sea. SAR helicopter rescues aircrew. (John Stevens) HMS EAGLE 1965. A Sea Vixen of 899 Sqdn approaches with its starboard undercarriage stuck up. S/Lt Parrett (P) & Lt Woodford (O). (John Stevens) ...and successful barrier engagement. Sequence of the foregoing barrier landing. June 1963. Scimitar XD 239 of 800 Sqdn, HMS ARK ROYAL. S/Lt Legg (P) tries to divert to RAF Khormaksar but lands in 12 feet of water. (John Stevens) XD 239 being recovered by divers. (John Stevens). HMS EAGLE, 25/03/66. Buccaneer1 XN970 of 800 Sqdn. Flt Lt Graham Smart (P) and Lt Noel Rawbone (O) are forced to eject. (John Stevens) Flt Lt Smart being returned safely to the ship by the SAR helicopter. Noel Rawbone was also rescued safely. (John Stevens) HMS EAGLE 1965. Clockwise - Gannet launch. Catapult strop hook breaks, causing a "cold shot". Unable to take off, it ditches. Crew recovered safely.
