      "My father was a CPOSBA (Hostilities Only) and he encouraged me to keep up with the sports I was keen on. That helped me all the time I was in the navy. I was a sprinter and was one of three who had run 100 yards in 10 seconds. I was lucky enough to run for the Fleet Air Arm, Combined Services, and the West of Scotland teams."

POST-RN CAREER
      "I joined what is now the FLS at Stansted Airport, working mainly on jumbo-jets. Sylvia was 40 years with M&S."

HOBBIES & PASTIMES
      "Water colours. I did play golf but stopped for medical reasons."
